About this card

Card #129 is Charles Barkley's card in the twelve-card All-Star subset (#120–131) that runs at the end of the 1988-89 Fleer set, ahead of the #132 checklist — Fleer's first All-Star subset. The same player appears in this set on base card #85.

About Charles Barkley

Undersized, overweight, and utterly unstoppable, Charles Barkley left Auburn as 1984 SEC Player of the Year after leading the conference in rebounding three straight seasons — a physique-defying act that earned him the nickname "the Round Mound of Rebound." Philadelphia took him fifth overall in the 1984 draft, and by the time card #85 appeared he was a full-blown superstar, in the middle of a 1988-89 campaign of 25.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game with All-NBA First Team honors. This is not a rookie card, but it is peak-Philadelphia Barkley. The power forward gave the 76ers eight seasons (1984-92), won the 1992-93 MVP with Phoenix (1992-96), and closed in Houston (1996-2000), piling up 11 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA nods, the 1986-87 rebounding title, two Olympic gold medals (1992, 1996), 23,757 points, and 12,546 rebounds. The Naismith Hall of Fame called in 2006 — then again in 2010 for the Dream Team.
