About Randy Wittman
Card #7 catches Randy Wittman during his brief Sacramento stopover — a 31-game stint after five seasons running the wing in Atlanta. The Indianapolis native played for Bob Knight at Indiana, drilling the deep corner buzzer-beater that closed the first half of the 1981 NCAA title-game win over North Carolina and earning consensus second-team All-America honors in 1983. Washington took him 22nd overall in the 1983 draft, then dealt his rights to the Hawks, where the 6-6 guard shared a backcourt with Doc Rivers and Spud Webb and averaged double figures from 1985-88. Sacramento sent him on to Indiana midway through 1988-89, and he wound down in 1991-92 with 4,034 career points (7.4 per game) on 50.1 percent shooting across 543 games. Not a rookie card, but a nice snapshot of a future NBA head coach — Wittman later ran the Cavaliers, Timberwolves, and Wizards, guiding Washington to the 2014 second round.
