About Wayman Tisdale
One of the most decorated college players ever, Wayman Tisdale was a three-time consensus first-team All-American at Oklahoma (1983-85), the Sooners' all-time leading scorer, and a gold medalist with the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, the last to win it with amateurs. Indiana made the left-handed power forward the second overall pick in 1985, and this card, not a rookie card, catches him in his final Pacers season: he was dealt to Sacramento midway through 1988-89. His best ball came with the Kings, where he peaked at 22.3 points per game in 1989-90 on the way to 12,878 career points (15.3 per game) and 6.1 rebounds across 12 seasons with Indiana, Sacramento, and Phoenix (1985-97). Tisdale retired in 1997 to chase his first love, smooth jazz, recording eight albums as a bass guitarist, with 2001's Face to Face topping Billboard's contemporary jazz chart. Beloved for his ever-present smile, he died in 2009 at just 44, the same year he entered the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
