About Dode Paskert
George Henry "Dode" Paskert was one of the Deadball Era's finest defensive center fielders. Spotted pitching for a semipro club in Warren, Ohio, in 1904, he signed with Dayton of the Central League, was converted to the outfield, and had his contract purchased by the Cincinnati Reds in 1907. Over 15 major-league seasons (1907–1921) with the Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago Cubs, the fleet-footed Paskert batted .268 with 1,613 hits, 293 stolen bases, and 42 home runs across 1,716 games. He led the National League with 51 steals in 1910 and enjoyed his finest year in 1912, posting a .315 average and .420 on-base percentage. Paskert played in two World Series, both losses to the Red Sox—batting third for the 1915 Phillies and cleanup for the 1918 Cubs. Nicknamed "Honey Boy" for being "such a sweet ballplayer," he was praised as one of baseball's greatest judges of a fly ball.
