1934 Goudey #77 Joe Vosmik
High number: this card belongs to the fourth and final 24-card press sheet (#73-96), printed as the 1934 season wound down — the reason the set's last two dozen cards are its hardest to find.

About Joe Vosmik
Joseph Franklin Vosmik arrived in the majors with the Cleveland Indians in September 1930, the son of Bohemian immigrants. After a monster 1929 minor-league season at Frederick, Cleveland newspapers — a bit confused geographically — dubbed him the "Blond Viking." He anchored left field for the Tribe through the mid-1930s, batting .320 with 117 RBIs as a rookie and .341 in 1934, the year his Goudey card was issued. He peaked in 1935, leading the American League in hits (216), doubles (47), and triples (20) — the first outright sweep of all three since Ty Cobb in 1919 — finishing third in MVP voting and drawing a two-minute ovation at that summer’s All-Star Game in Cleveland. Vosmik went on to lead the league in hits again with the 1938 Red Sox and closed his career with a .307 average and 1,682 hits. Card #77, issued in Goudey’s scarce final high-number series (#73-96) late in the year, catches him in Cleveland flannels — his recognized rookie card.
