About Eddie Robinson

Robinson played all 155 games at first base in 1950, split between Washington and Chicago, and batted .295 with 21 home runs and 86 RBI. His 163 hits and 83 runs were up from 155 and 66 in 1949, when he started the All-Star Game at first and singled in Joe DiMaggio off Warren Spahn. Paul Richards took over as Chicago's manager in 1951, and on April 25 of that year Robinson hit a home run out of Comiskey Park.

Eddie Robinson was a left-handed-hitting first baseman who played 13 major league seasons between 1942 and 1957 and appeared with seven of the eight American League clubs of his day, every one but the Red Sox. He reached Cleveland for eight games in 1942, spent three years in the Navy, and returned in 1946. He was the Indians' first baseman for the 1948 World Series win over the Boston Braves, then was traded to Washington with Ed Klieman and Joe Haynes for Mickey Vernon and Early Wynn. His best years came with the Senators and White Sox, and he made four All-Star teams (1949, 1951, 1952, 1953), driving in 117 runs for Chicago in 1951. He later joined the Yankees as a part-timer, and in 1955 hit 16 home runs on only 36 hits. After retiring with 172 home runs and a .268 average, he worked as an Orioles coach, a farm director in Kansas City, and general manager of the Braves and the Rangers. He died on October 4, 2021, aged 100.
