About Bob Milliken
Robert Fogle Milliken (1926–2007) was a right-handed pitcher out of Majorsville, West Virginia, who worked his way up through the minors with Fort Worth (1948–49) and the Montreal Royals (1950) before military service interrupted his climb in 1951–52. Returning in 1953, the reliever and spot starter reached the Brooklyn Dodgers and helped them clinch the National League pennant, going 8–4 with a 3.37 ERA and 65 strikeouts over 117 innings in 37 games. In that fall's World Series against the Yankees he tossed two innings of shutout relief. He went 5–2 with two saves in 1954, but arm trouble ended his big-league days after just two seasons. Milliken finished 13–6 with a 3.59 ERA, four saves, and 90 strikeouts in 180⅓ innings over 61 appearances. He later returned as a longtime coach and batting-practice pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. This 1953 Topps high-number card (#221) is his rookie card.
