About Clem Koshorek
Clement John "Scooter" Koshorek was a diminutive 5-foot-4 utility infielder from Royal Oak, Michigan (1925-1991) who packed a 14-year professional career largely into the minor leagues. He entered pro ball in 1946 in the Detroit Tigers organization and picked up the nickname "Scooter" as the shortstop for the Central League's Flint Arrows from 1948 to 1950. Selected by Pittsburgh in the 1951 Rule 5 draft, the right-handed batter spent his rookie 1952 season on the Pirates' roster, appearing in 98 games split among shortstop (33 starts), third base (25) and second base (24) and hitting .261 with 84 hits, 17 doubles and 15 RBI. His big-league days ended almost as quickly as they began: in 1953, the year of this card, Koshorek made just one appearance, a pinch-hit strikeout against Brooklyn's Joe Black on April 14, leaving him with a .260 career average over 99 games. He returned to the minors and later served as player-manager of the Palatka Redlegs in 1959. This #8 is one of the set's Series 1 double prints.
