About Bill Daddio
Bill Daddio held down end for Jock Sutherland's mightiest Pittsburgh teams, earning first-team All-America honors in both 1937 and 1938 and playing on Panther squads that claimed national championships in 1936 and 1937. His signature moment came in the Rose Bowl that capped the 1936 season: with Pitt facing Washington in the fourth quarter, Daddio returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown and added the extra point in the 21-0 victory, a performance that later earned him the game's retroactive Player of the Game award and a place in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. He went on to play for the NFL's Chicago Cardinals, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 1942, then served as a Navy gunnery officer in World War II and received the Bronze Star. After a season as player-coach of the AAFC's Buffalo Bisons, Daddio was head coach at Allegheny College, an assistant at Purdue and Notre Dame, and for nearly two decades a scout for the Denver Broncos.
