1955 Topps All-American #5 Bob Grayson
An Oregon Sports Hall of Fame inductee (1980).

About Bob Grayson
Bob Grayson, a Portland-born fullback recruited to Stanford by Pop Warner, was the engine of the famed Vow Boys. As freshmen in 1932, Grayson and his classmates promised never to lose to USC, then made good on it with three straight victories over the Trojans from 1933 to 1935. Those Stanford teams went 25-4-2 and became the first ever to reach three consecutive Rose Bowls, and Grayson's 152 rushing yards in the 1934 game stood as a Rose Bowl record for two decades. A consensus All-American in 1934 and unanimous choice in 1935, he set a Stanford career rushing mark of 1,547 yards that lasted twenty years, and against Washington he once intercepted four passes, returning two for touchdowns. Ernie Nevers called him the best back he had ever seen. Pittsburgh drafted Grayson in the NFL's first draft in 1936, but he passed on pro football, later commanding a minesweeper in World War II. The College Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 1955.
