1955 Topps All-American #4 Erny Pinckert
About Erny Pinckert
Erny Pinckert played halfback for Howard Jones's USC powerhouses from 1929 to 1931, earning All-America honors in both 1930 and 1931 and helping the Trojans capture the 1931 national championship. Jones prized Pinckert's quickness and hard, clean contact and built trick plays around him: in a 21-12 Rose Bowl victory over Tulane, he broke double reverses for touchdown runs of 30 and 27 yards, and he was a favorite target in the passing attack that routed Pittsburgh 47-14 in another Rose Bowl. A two-time All-Pacific Coast Conference selection, Pinckert moved on to nine NFL seasons with the Boston Braves, who became the Boston and later Washington Redskins, winning the 1937 league championship and earning two Pro Bowl selections. Away from the game he was a younger brother of the astrologer Jeane Dixon. Pinckert was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1957.
