1955 Topps All-American #79 Pug Lund
Lund won the Big Ten's MVP award, the Chicago Tribune Silver Football , in 1934.

About Pug Lund
Francis 'Pug' Lund was the heart of Bernie Bierman's first Minnesota juggernaut, a halfback from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, who played through punishment that became legend — lost teeth, a broken thumb, even an amputated finger. Bierman called him the greatest competitor he ever saw. An All-American in 1933 and a consensus choice in 1934, Lund captained the unbeaten 1934 national champions, who outscored opponents 270-38, and won the Chicago Tribune Silver Football as the Big Ten's most valuable player. In that season's pivotal game he took a fourth-down lateral and threw the touchdown pass to Bob Tenner that beat Pittsburgh 13-7. The nickname stuck when a reporter decided 'Francis' would never do for a football player. Lund passed on the pros for a business career in Minneapolis and, in a fitting coda, completed his Minnesota degree in 1993, sixty-two years after he first enrolled. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1958.
