About Willie Heston

Willie Heston was the battering ram of Fielding H. Yost's fabled "Point-a-Minute" Michigan teams, starting at left halfback from 1901 through 1904. The Wolverines never lost a game with him in the backfield, going 43-0-1 across four seasons, and in the first Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 1902 he ripped Stanford for 170 yards on 18 carries in a 49-0 rout. School records credit him with 71 career touchdowns, and Walter Camp placed him on his All-America first team in both 1903 and 1904. Built 5-foot-8 and 190 pounds with 10-flat speed in the 100-yard dash, he was later named the halfback on an all-time team covering football's first half-century. Heston earned a Michigan law degree, practiced in Detroit, and served as a judge, and in 1954 he entered the College Football Hall of Fame.
