1955 Topps All-American #64 Benny Friedman

About Benny Friedman
Benny Friedman was football's first great passer. At Michigan he earned consensus All-America honors at quarterback in both 1925 and 1926, winning the Chicago Tribune Silver Football as the Big Ten's most valuable player in his final season. Turning professional, he made the forward pass a genuine weapon in an era built around the run, earning first-team All-NFL honors in each of his first four seasons with the Cleveland Bulldogs, Detroit Wolverines, and New York Giants. Friedman led the league in touchdown passes four straight years from 1927 through 1930, and his 20 scoring throws in 1929 stood as the NFL single-season record until 1942. He later coached at City College of New York and became Brandeis University's first athletic director and head football coach. Friedman entered the College Football Hall of Fame with its inaugural class in 1951 and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
