1955 Topps #152 Harry Agganis
Harry Agganis, the 'Golden Greek,' who died suddenly in June 1955 at age 26. His only Topps card and the closest thing the set has to a true rarity outside the high numbers.

About Harry Agganis
Harry Agganis, the "Golden Greek," was a Lynn, Massachusetts native who became Boston University's first football All-American as a star quarterback before the Cleveland Browns made him a first-round pick in the 1952 NFL Draft, intending him to succeed Otto Graham. He turned down pro football when Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey signed him to play baseball instead. A left-handed first baseman, Agganis debuted with Boston on April 13, 1954, batting .251 with 11 home runs and 57 RBI as a rookie, and homered in his first week at Fenway. Over two big-league seasons (1954-1955) he hit .261 with 135 hits, 11 home runs, and 67 RBI in 157 games. Nicknamed for his athletic gifts and Greek heritage, he died suddenly on June 27, 1955, at age 26 of a pulmonary embolism while hospitalized. Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1974, he is memorialized by Boston University's Agganis Arena. This is his only Topps card and, as a spotlight rookie in the set's semi-high series, one of the 1955 issue's true keys.
