About Irv Noren
Irving Arnold Noren was a left-handed-hitting outfielder who signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946 for a $5,000 bonus after starring in baseball and basketball at Pasadena Junior College and serving in the Army during World War II. He reached the majors with the Washington Senators in 1950, then was traded to the New York Yankees in May 1952, where he became a valuable platoon outfielder for Casey Stengel across roughly four and a half seasons (1952-1956). His finest year came in 1954, when he earned an All-Star selection and batted a career-high .319 (fourth in the American League). With the Yankees, Noren appeared in three World Series (1952, 1953, and 1955), each against his original Brooklyn organization, and was on the Yankees' 1952 and 1953 championship clubs. Over 11 big-league seasons through 1960 - also with Kansas City, St. Louis, the Cubs, and the Dodgers - he played 1,093 games and hit .275 with 857 hits, 65 home runs, and 453 RBI. He later served as third-base coach for the World Series-champion Oakland Athletics. Noren died in 2019 at age 94.
