About New York Yankees Team

The New York Yankees team card captures the sport's defining dynasty at its mid-1950s peak. Managed by Casey Stengel and playing at Yankee Stadium, the 1955 Yankees went 96-58 to capture the American League pennant—their sixth in a row and 21st overall—finishing three games ahead of Cleveland, before falling to the Brooklyn Dodgers in a seven-game World Series, the Dodgers' first title. The roster was stacked: Mickey Mantle (37 homers in 1955), reigning AL MVP Yogi Berra, ace Whitey Ford, and hard-throwing Bob Turley. That core carried straight into 1956, when Mantle won the Triple Crown (.353, 52 HR, 130 RBI) and unanimous MVP, and the Yankees beat Brooklyn in seven games for the championship—the Series in which Don Larsen threw the only perfect game in World Series history in Game 5. Fittingly, this card carries a famous uncorrected error: the front misspells Larsen's name as "Larson." Long regarded as a tough card to find in high grade, it remains a cornerstone of the 1956 Topps set.
