1957 Topps #183 Chicago Cubs

About the 1957 Chicago Cubs
The 1957 Chicago Cubs endured another losing campaign, going 62-92 to tie the Pittsburgh Pirates for seventh place in the eight-team National League, 33 games behind the pennant-winning Milwaukee Braves, who went on to beat the New York Yankees in the World Series. Managed by Bob Scheffing and playing at Wrigley Field, the club was carried by shortstop Ernie Banks, later nicknamed "Mr. Cub," who hit .285 with 43 home runs and 102 RBIs. Walt Moryn and Dale Long added power, while Moe Drabowsky led the pitching staff. The year is best remembered elsewhere in the league: 1957 was the final New York season for the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants before their moves to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Banks was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1977.
