1957 Topps #299 Chuck Harmon
Scarce fourth series: #265-352 is the tough run of the 1957 set — roughly twice as hard to find as the other series ("tough, not rare"). No documented reason survives; the best-researched account is that Topps printed the hastily assembled final series in quantity and left Series 4 with the shortest run.

About Chuck Harmon
Chuck Harmon broke into pro ball in 1947, playing briefly for the Negro league Indianapolis Clowns under the alias "Charlie Fine" to protect his college eligibility before signing with the St. Louis Browns organization. An All-American basketball player at Toledo, he made history on April 17, 1954, becoming the first African American to play for the Cincinnati Reds, pinch-hitting at Milwaukee's County Stadium. A right-handed utility man, he covered third base, first, and the outfield across four seasons (1954-57) with Cincinnati, the Cardinals, and Phillies, batting .238 with 7 home runs in 289 games. Teammates called him "The Glove" because he could play anywhere and carried a special glove for each position. Honored with induction into the Reds Hall of Fame (2014) and a statue at the club's youth academy (2015), Harmon died in 2019 at age 94. This scarce Series Four card shows him with St. Louis just before his May 1957 trade to Philadelphia.
