Robert Charles Speake was a left-handed hitting outfielder and first baseman, born in Springfield, Missouri, in 1930. He played for the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants of the National League during the 1950s, debuting in April 1955 and playing his final game in June 1959. His busiest year was 1957, when he appeared in 129 games for the Cubs, hitting .232 with 16 home runs and 50 RBI, splitting time between the outfield and first base. In 1955 he had hit 12 homers in 95 games. Over four big league seasons he played 305 games and collected 170 hits, 31 home runs and 104 RBI for a .223 average. He never appeared in an All-Star Game or a postseason. Speake died in Topeka, Kansas, in October 2024 at the age of 94.
