Dave Melton was an outfielder born in Pampa, Texas, who attended high school in Coronado, California, and played college baseball at Stanford. His professional career was spent almost entirely on the West Coast, and he became a popular member of the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League. In 1955 he batted .299 for the Seals and set career highs with 19 home runs, 116 runs batted in and 184 hits. The major leagues gave him only a brief look with the Kansas City Athletics, in 1956 and 1958. He appeared in 12 games in all and came to bat nine times, and his single hit was a single off Detroit's Frank Lary in his first big league at bat on April 17, 1956. He threw and batted right-handed. His minor league playing days ran, with gaps, from 1950 through 1962. He died in Cupertino, California, in 2008.
