About the 1958 Kansas City Athletics

The Kansas City Athletics ranked among the American League's weakest clubs in this era, finishing seventh at 59-94 in 1957. The 1958 roster did feature a notable young outfielder: Roger Maris, acquired from Cleveland in a mid-June 1958 trade. Maris hit 19 home runs for Kansas City that season before a later deal sent him to the New York Yankees, where in 1961 he would break Babe Ruth's single-season home-run record. The A's card, like every 1958 Topps team card, carries a series checklist on its back - the first time Topps used team cards for that purpose.
