Jack Urban was a compact right-handed pitcher from Omaha, Nebraska, listed at 5 feet 8 inches and 155 pounds, who attended Technical High School. The New York Yankees signed him before the 1949 season, and he spent six full years in their organization, plus two in the military. In the minors he won 23 games in the Class D Sooner State League and threw a no-hitter for the Birmingham Barons of the Double-A Southern Association in 1954. A 13-player trade in 1957 sent him to the Kansas City Athletics, and he made his major league debut on June 13, 1957, at age 28, going the distance against Washington and allowing two runs on five hits. He pitched three big league seasons, 1957 and 1958 with Kansas City and 1959 with the St. Louis Cardinals, going 15-15 with a 4.83 ERA in 69 games, 37 of them starts. He also hit .209 in 86 career at-bats. His final game came on August 6, 1959, and he died in Omaha in 2006.
