About the 1958 New York Yankees
The New York Yankees were the era's dominant franchise. In 1957 they won the American League pennant at 98-56 before dropping a seven-game World Series to the Milwaukee Braves. They avenged it in 1958, taking the pennant again (92-62) and beating the Braves in another seven-game World Series - rallying from a three-games-to-one deficit - for their 18th title. Center fielder Mickey Mantle, the reigning back-to-back AL MVP (1956-57) and 1956 Triple Crown winner, headlined a lineup that also featured catcher Yogi Berra and left-hander Whitey Ford, all future Hall of Famers. Card #246's back carries a series checklist, new to Topps team cards in 1958.
