1959 Topps #570 Bob Turley

About Bob Turley
Bob Turley, nicknamed "Bullet Bob" for his blazing fastball, was a right-handed pitcher who starred for the New York Yankees during the 1950s after beginning his career with the St. Louis Browns/Baltimore Orioles organization. His signature season came in 1958, when he went 21-7 and won the Cy Young Award — then a single honor covering all of baseball — narrowly edging Warren Spahn. Turley's postseason heroics that October were even more remarkable: after the Yankees fell behind the Milwaukee Braves three games to one in the World Series, he threw a complete-game shutout in the elimination Game 5, earned a 10th-inning save in Game 6, and pitched 6.2 innings of two-hit relief to win the decisive Game 7, becoming just the second team in history to overcome a 3-1 Series deficit; Turley was named World Series MVP. His 1959 Topps card reflects the follow-up to that career-defining year. Turley made six All-Star teams over his career and won two World Series rings with the Yankees.
