About Enos Slaughter

Enos "Country" Slaughter entered pro ball in the Cardinals' system and debuted in St. Louis in 1938, becoming a key figure on the 1942 World Series champions before missing three seasons to military service in World War II. Upon his return, he authored the legendary "Mad Dash" in Game 7 of the 1946 World Series, scoring from first base on a Harry Walker single to clinch the title for St. Louis. His 1959 Topps card captures him near the close of a 19-year career (1938–1959) spent with the Cardinals, New York Yankees, Kansas City Athletics, and Milwaukee Braves, during which he won four World Series titles — two more with the Yankees — and earned ten All-Star selections. Slaughter retired with a .300 career batting average and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.
