This multi-player card paired two premier starting pitchers under a shared "Ace Hurlers" banner. Billy Pierce, the White Sox left-hander, closed 1958 at 17-11 with a 2.68 ERA, finishing second in the AL in both wins and ERA and coming within one out of a perfect game that June. Robin Roberts, the Phillies' workhorse right-hander who had won 20-plus games six straight seasons earlier in the decade, rebounded from arm trouble in 1958 to go 17-14 for a last-place club, picking up his 200th career win along the way.
