1962 Topps #145 Barry Latman

About Barry Latman
The 1962 set gives Latman two cards on the strength of his 1961 breakout, when he ran off nine straight wins to open the year and finished 13-5 with a 4.02 ERA and five saves, his one All-Star season. Series-1 card #37, 'Tribe Hill Trio,' groups him with Cleveland pitchers Dick Stigman and Jim Perry, though Stigman had been dealt to Minnesota before the season began. His solo series-2 card #145 comes in two states: 145a, the standard first printing, and 145b with the green tint of the second printing.
Arnold Barry Latman was a broad-shouldered right-hander from Los Angeles who pitched eleven major league seasons, 1957-1967, for the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles/California Angels and Houston Astros. He threw a perfect game for Fairfax High School in 1954, and Ty Cobb, who had seen him pitch on television, began a five-year correspondence telling him he had the stuff for the majors. Latman signed with the White Sox in 1955 while attending USC, and was nicknamed 'Shoulders' for his build. Cleveland acquired him in April 1960 in a straight swap for left-hander Herb Score, and he repaid the deal in 1961 by winning his first nine decisions, going 13-5 and earning his only All-Star selection. He finished 59-68 with a 3.91 ERA and 829 strikeouts in 344 games. An observant Jew who would not pitch on the High Holidays, he was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He died in Richmond, Texas, in 2019 at age 82.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
