1962 Topps #560 Chuck Estrada

About Chuck Estrada
The back of card #560 reports 1961: 15-9, a 3.69 ERA and 160 strikeouts over 212 innings, but also a major-league-high 132 walks and a second-place finish in hit batsmen, a run short of Jim Kaat, as the control began to slip. Jim Gentile hit a record five grand slams that season, every one of them with Estrada on the mound. Numbered into series-7, the card is one of the short-printed high numbers that close the set out.
Charles Leonard Estrada, a hard-throwing right-hander born February 15, 1938, in San Luis Obispo, California, signed with the Baltimore Orioles on September 27, 1956, out of Atascadero High School and semipro ball with the San Luis Obispo Blues. He reached the majors on April 21, 1960, as part of the young Orioles staff known as the Kiddie Korps, and tied Jim Perry for the American League lead with 18 wins as a rookie, the only pitcher ever to top that league in victories in his first season. He was an All-Star in both of that summer's two games and worked an inning in the first of them, and The Sporting News named him its Pitcher of the Year. Estrada stayed a workhorse starter through 1962, but elbow trouble put him on the operating table in September 1963 and he never regained that form. He pitched briefly for Baltimore through 1964, spent 1965 at Triple-A Rochester, and made his last big-league appearance on June 11, 1967, finishing 50-44 with a 4.07 ERA and 535 strikeouts over seven seasons. He kept throwing in the minors into 1969, then coached into the 1990s, with pitching-coach stints for the Rangers, Padres and Indians.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1962 Topps #560 card?
It is card #560 of the 600-card 1962 Topps Baseball set, picturing Chuck Estrada of the Baltimore Orioles.
Why is #560 harder to find?
It is a high number card (cards 523-598) from the seventh print series, distributed last and in the smallest quantity - the toughest cards in the set and home to all 42 short prints and the Rookie Parade. It is also a short print card (42 cards, all in 523-598). Printed in smaller quantity than the rest of the seventh series.
How many cards are in the 1962 Topps Baseball set?
600 cards, tracked as 708 collectible states. The numbers run from 1 to 598 with no gaps, but three different cards were printed #139 - two Hal Reniff poses, catalogued 139a and 139b, and the Babe Hits 60 Babe Ruth Special, 139c - so 598 numbers make 600 cards; 93 cards carry catalogued print variations, the series-2 green tints among them, that the master set counts separately.
