1962 Topps #165 Jackie Brandt

About Jackie Brandt
The 1962 issue, #165, is a second-series card with two collectible printing states: 165a with no green tint and 165b showing the color-shifted green tint of that run. It reports 1961, his best season in Baltimore: a .297 average, 153 hits, 93 runs, 16 home runs and 72 RBI in 139 games, 120 of them in center field, the year he was picked for both of that summer's All-Star Games.
Jackie Brandt (born April 28, 1934, in Omaha, Nebraska) signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an amateur free agent in 1953, debuted on April 21, 1956, and moved that same year to the New York Giants, staying with the franchise through its shift to San Francisco. He won the 1959 National League Gold Glove as the Giants' left fielder, in an outfield that also honored Willie Mays in center. Traded to Baltimore for 1960, he was the Orioles' regular center fielder for five seasons before Paul Blair took the job in 1965. He made the American League All-Star team in 1961 and set career highs of 19 home runs and 75 RBI in 1962. Baltimore sent him and Darold Knowles to the Phillies for Jack Baldschun on December 6, 1965, and he finished in 1967 with Houston. Over 11 seasons he batted .262 with 1,020 hits, 112 home runs and 485 RBI in 1,221 games, nicknamed 'Flakey' for a famously distracted, unpredictable style.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1962 Topps #165 card?
It is card #165 of the 600-card 1962 Topps Baseball set, picturing Jackie Brandt of the Baltimore Orioles.
Does 1962 Topps #165 have variations?
Yes. Two states are catalogued and tracked separately: 165a - No Green Tint (No green tint - the standard first printing) and 165b - Green Tint (Green tint - the color-shifted second printing of series 2). Owning any one of them fills the #165 slot; the master set counts each state.
How many cards are in the 1962 Topps Baseball set?
600 cards, tracked as 708 collectible states. The numbers run from 1 to 598 with no gaps, but three different cards were printed #139 - two Hal Reniff poses, catalogued 139a and 139b, and the Babe Hits 60 Babe Ruth Special, 139c - so 598 numbers make 600 cards; 93 cards carry catalogued print variations, the series-2 green tints among them, that the master set counts separately.
