About this card

Cards #232-237 tell the 1961 World Series - the Yankees over the Reds - game by game, Games 1 through 5 plus a summary card of the winners celebrating. Three captions name the man pictured: Joey Jay (#233), Roger Maris (#234) and Whitey Ford (#235).

The story on this card

October 9, 1961: the Yankees closed out the Series by routing the Reds 13-5 at Crosley Field, four games to one. With Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle both sidelined, the fill-ins carried it. New York scored five in the first, backup catcher Johnny Blanchard's two-run homer the big blow, and starter Joey Jay was gone after two outs. Hector Lopez drove in five on a triple, a three-run homer in a five-run fourth, and a squeeze bunt; Bill Skowron added a two-run single that inning. Frank Robinson's three-run shot in the third and Wally Post's two-run drive in the fifth were Cincinnati's answer, and Bud Daley relieved Ralph Terry in the third to earn the win. It is from the 1962 Topps World Series subset, third series.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
