1963 Topps #516 Purnal Goldy
His only Topps card, issued in the short-printed final series of 1963.

About Purnal Goldy
Goldy's second and final trip to the majors came in 1963, when he appeared in 9 games for the Tigers, his last on September 28, closing out a brief big-league career that totaled .231 with three home runs and 12 RBI over two seasons. Topps gave him card #516 in its 1963 set, part of the seventh and final series printed that year. High-numbered cards from that late series were produced in shorter supply than earlier ones, and #516 is Goldy's only Topps card and his rookie card.
Purnal William Goldy was a right fielder from Camden, New Jersey, signed by the Detroit Tigers out of Temple University. A tall, right-handed hitter at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, he spent seven seasons in the minor leagues from 1959 to 1965, playing for six organizations and batting a combined .299 with 70 home runs and 409 RBI in 790 games. His best minor league year came in 1960, when he led the Class A Sally League in batting average and hits and earned all-star honors. Goldy reached the majors with Detroit in June 1962 and appeared in parts of two seasons before his final big-league game in September 1963. Across 29 games with the Tigers he hit .231 with three home runs and 12 RBI. He died in Denver, Colorado, in 2009 at age 71.
