The story on this card

This 1963 Topps League Leaders card rounds up the American League's top winners from 1962: Ralph Terry led the circuit with 23 victories for the pennant-winning Yankees, while Dick Donovan (20-10, Cleveland), Ray Herbert (20-9, Chicago), and Camilo Pascual (20-11, Minnesota) each also reached 20 wins, and Jim Bunning closed out the group at 19-10 for Detroit. Card number 8 in the 1963 Topps set is part of series one and the League Leaders subset. The card is shared by Terry, Donovan, Herbert, Pascual, and Bunning.

Ralph Terry, a Yankees right-hander through five straight pennants (1960-64), threw the series-clinching 1-0 shutout in Game Seven of the 1962 World Series and was named that Series' MVP. Dick Donovan was a wandering right-hander whose Atlanta-taught slider carried him to five All-Star selections, a league-best 2.40 ERA for the 1961 expansion Senators, and a 20-win season for Cleveland in 1962. Ray Herbert - a journeyman sinkerballer who lost a decade to wildness and second-division clubs in Detroit and Kansas City, then remade himself with the White Sox after a June 1961 trade and won 20 games the next summer. Camilo Pascual - Cuban right-hander whose overhand curveball, learned from Adolfo Luque, carried him from the worst Senators teams to three straight American League strikeout crowns and back-to-back 20-win seasons for the Minnesota Twins. Jim Bunning was a hard-throwing right-hander who threw no-hitters in both leagues, including a 1964 perfect game for the Phillies, and later served as a US Senator from Kentucky.
