1964 Topps #154 Dick Tracewski

About Dick Tracewski
In 1964, his second straight season playing in more than 100 games, Tracewski shifted away from shortstop to work mainly at second and third base for the Dodgers, splitting his time about evenly between the two spots, batting .247 with a career-high 26 RBIs in 106 games. This 1964 Topps card, number 154 in the second series, shows him as a Dodger and is recognized as his rookie card.
Dick Tracewski was a utility infielder who spent eight big league seasons split between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers, playing shortstop, second base and third base. Signed by Brooklyn out of Pennsylvania in 1953, he needed six minor league seasons plus two years of military duty before debuting in 1962 in the first-ever series at the new Dodger Stadium. He was a steady reserve on the Dodgers' 1963 and 1965 championship clubs, then went to Detroit in a trade for pitcher Phil Regan and helped the Tigers win the 1968 World Series. He retired as a player after the 1969 season with a .213 career average, then spent parts of three decades coaching for Detroit, including two brief stretches as interim manager. Teammates nicknamed him for his acrobatics at team pool parties.
