The story on this card

1965 Topps #194 carries Bill Kelso on a Rookie Stars card shared with fellow Angel Rick Reichardt, part of the set's third print series. It marks his first Topps card, arriving after Kelso made his major league debut in relief for Los Angeles on July 31, 1964, striking out the first hitter he faced against Boston. He worked strictly out of the bullpen as a rookie, splitting an unweighted ten appearances between mop-up and short relief for the Angels. A Kansas City-raised right-hander who pitched for the Angels and Reds in the 1960s before a 29-year scouting career that included finding future big-league talent for Houston.

1965 Topps #194 pairs Reichardt with Bill Kelso as Angels Rookie Stars, part of the set's third print series. He opened the season in the California Angels outfield, hitting .267 with a home run and 6 RBI over 20 games, the year the frenzy from his own signing helped push the majors into instituting their first amateur draft. A Wisconsin two-sport star whose record signing bonus helped spur baseball's first amateur draft, Rick Reichardt spent a decade as an Angels, Senators, White Sox and Royals outfielder.
