The story on this card

Crawford's second Dodgers season came under the same bonus-rule obligation that had kept him on the roster since his 1964 debut, and he shared time in a young outfield while Los Angeles won the pennant. He got into the 1965 World Series as a pinch hitter, singling in Game 1 as the Dodgers went on to beat the Minnesota Twins in seven games. This 1965 Topps card is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue from the set's sixth print series, pairing Crawford with fellow Dodgers farmhand John Werhas, and stands as his recognized rookie card. Fremont High School two-sport star who signed with the Dodgers for $100,000 in 1964 and spent most of a fourteen-year career patrolling the Los Angeles outfield.

Werhas shares his 1965 Topps Rookie Stars card, #453, from the set's sixth print series, with fellow Dodgers farmhand Willie Crawford; it is Crawford's rookie card. Werhas returned to the Dodgers when rosters expanded in September 1965, going hitless in three pinch-hit appearances, and made his only start of the season at first base in the final game. A USC All-American third baseman and basketball standout drafted by the Lakers, John Werhas signed with the Dodgers instead, reaching the majors in 1964 and finishing his career with the Angels in 1967 after a stint in Japan.
