1965 Topps #371 Frank Kreutzer

About Frank Kreutzer
By 1965 Kreutzer had settled in with the Washington Senators for his only full big-league season, working as both a starter and reliever. That July he threw the only shutout of his career, a three-hitter against Detroit in which he also homered. His 1965 Topps card, #371 and part of the set's fifth print series, shows him with the Senators.
Franklin James Kreutzer was a left-handed pitcher from Buffalo, New York, who attended Villanova University before beginning his professional career in 1961 in the Boston Red Sox organization. That November he was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the first-year player draft. He debuted in the majors on September 20, 1962, throwing a scoreless inning and a third of relief against Boston at Comiskey Park. After parts of three seasons with the White Sox, he went to the Washington Senators as the player to be named later completing the July 1964 trade that sent Bill Skowron to Chicago for Joe Cunningham. His only full major-league season came in 1965, capped by a three-hit, ten-strikeout shutout of the Detroit Tigers on July 2 in which he also hit a two-run home run. Over parts of six seasons split between the two clubs, Kreutzer appeared in 78 games, made 32 starts, and finished with an 8-18 record, a 4.40 ERA, two complete games and one save.
