The story on this card

Card #518 pairs Herb Hippauf with fellow pitcher Arnie Umbach on a Braves Rookie Stars card, part of the set's sixth print series. It doubles as Hippauf's rookie card, issued the same season he broke in with the Atlanta Braves, working three relief appearances for a club playing its first season in Atlanta after relocating from Milwaukee that winter. A hard-throwing lefty whose big-league career lasted just three relief outings for the 1966 Atlanta Braves, Herb Hippauf went on to a four-decade scouting career, becoming the Colorado Rockies' national cross-checker before his death in 1995.

1966 Topps #518 is a Rookie Stars card from print series 6, shared with fellow Braves prospect Herb Hippauf, and a recognized rookie card for Umbach. It marks his final major league season, the first for the Atlanta Braves in that city, when he worked 22 games, three as a starter, and posted a 3.10 ERA over 40.2 innings with 23 strikeouts, going 0-2. Right-hander Arnie Umbach signed with the Braves for a $100,000 bonus in 1961 and pitched in the majors for Milwaukee and Atlanta before becoming an Alabama attorney and Southern League counsel.
