Fred Valentine was a switch-hitting outfielder from Clarksdale, Mississippi, who starred at Tennessee State before signing with the Baltimore Orioles in 1956. He remained a fixture in the Washington outfield through 1967 before being traded back to Baltimore in mid-1968, closing out a seven-year major league career split between the two clubs. Over 533 games he batted .247 with 36 home runs, 138 RBI and 47 stolen bases. After his major league career he played a season in Japan for the Hanshin Tigers before retiring from professional baseball.
