The story on this card
1966 Topps #373 is another Rookie Stars card, from the set's fifth print series, pairing Hiatt with fellow Giants prospect Dick Estelle. That season Hiatt's limited big-league time with the Giants came at first base, spelling the regular infielders in a reserve role. A defense-first catcher best remembered for an April 1969 hot streak with the Giants, including a walk-off grand slam against Houston, before a long run building the Giants' farm system.
A year later Estelle turns up again on 1966 Topps #373, another Rookie Stars pairing, this one from the fifth print series. The partner here is fellow Giants prospect Jack Hiatt. The card reports on a 1965 season that had been brief: six trips to the mound for San Francisco, one of them a start, 11.1 innings, a 3.97 ERA and no decisions either way. By the time the card reached the shelves his major league work was over - his last game had come on October 3, 1965 - and it closed out his appearances in Topps' 1960s run. A left-handed San Francisco Giants pitcher who worked parts of 1964 and 1965 in the majors, going 1-2 with a 3.23 career ERA over 53.0 innings, and who appears on two shared Rookie Stars cards.
