The story on this card
Coleman spent most of the 1966 season pitching for the York White Roses in the Eastern League, with only a brief midseason look from the Senators. He shares this Rookie Stars card, #333, with fellow Washington farmhand Jim French, part of Topps' fourth print series that year. As a multi-player rookie subset card issued the spring after his September 1965 major league debut, it counts among his recognized rookie cards. A first-round bonus baby who reached the majors at eighteen, Coleman blossomed into a 20-game winner with Detroit and started a shutout in the 1972 ALCS.
French's 1966 Topps card, #333, is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue from the fourth print series, pairing him with fellow Senators prospect Joe Coleman. He had debuted with Washington the previous September, hitting .297 in a brief look, and entered 1966 as a young catcher the club hoped could eventually develop into an everyday player behind the plate. A Washington Senators backup catcher from an Ohio dairy farm, Jim French debuted with a two-hit game in 1965, built a reputation for his arm and pitch-calling, then became a securities trader and, later, a practicing attorney.
