The story on this card

Murcer opened 1966 with the Yankees but was optioned down to Toledo of the International League, appearing in just 21 games with the big club and batting .174 before finishing the year in the minors. This Rookie Stars card, from Topps' sixth series, is Murcer's rookie card, pairing him with fellow Yankees farmhand Dooley Womack. Oklahoma City-born outfielder who came up as a Yankees shortstop prospect, lost two seasons to the Army, then became a five-time All-Star center fielder and 1972 Gold Glove winner for New York.

Womack made the Yankees' Opening Day roster out of spring training in 1966 and debuted April 14 against the Detroit Tigers, pitching three scoreless innings. Used almost entirely in relief, he went 7-3 with a 2.64 ERA in 42 games, striking out 50 in 75 innings and posting the team's lowest WHIP. This card, a multi-player Rookie Stars issue shared with Bobby Murcer, is a recognized rookie card from the sixth print series. Yankees relief pitcher nicknamed Dooley for a childhood friend's father, he pitched five big-league seasons and was the winning pitcher the night Mickey Mantle hit his 500th home run.
