The story on this card
Topps paired Norm Cash and Al Kaline as the Bengal Belters, saluting Detroit's two big bats in the middle of the Tigers' order. Both were the 1961 batting-race one-two, Cash's .361 nosing out Kaline's .324, and by 1967 each was a fixture in the Detroit lineup. That season Kaline, in his fifteenth big-league year and making his thirteenth All-Star team, batted .308 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs, while Cash held down first base at .242 with 22 home runs and 72 RBIs. The Tigers stayed in a tight four-team pennant race, finishing one game behind the Boston Red Sox.
Norm Cash, "Stormin' Norman," held down first base in Detroit for fifteen seasons, won the 1961 American League batting title at .361, made five All-Star teams and helped the Tigers win the 1968 World Series, finishing with 377 home runs. Mr. Tiger: Al Kaline gave the Detroit Tigers 22 seasons, most of them in right field, won the American League batting title at 20 in 1955, took home ten Gold Gloves and finished with 3,007 hits and 399 home runs.
