The story on this card
This card is the American League Batting Leaders board from the 1967 Topps League Leaders subset, printed in series 3 and shared by Frank Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles, Tony Oliva of the Minnesota Twins, and Al Kaline of the Detroit Tigers. Robinson topped the league at .316 to cap his Triple Crown season, his first with Baltimore after the winter trade from Cincinnati, a year that also brought him the AL MVP award. Oliva, chasing his third batting crown, finished as runner-up at .307. Kaline, Detroit's longtime right fielder, placed third at .288 to round out the trio.
Frank Robinson - Cincinnati's 1961 National League MVP, then Baltimore's 1966 American League Triple Crown winner, MVP and World Series MVP after one of baseball's most lopsided trades; nicknamed "the Judge," he later became the majors' first Black manager. Tony Oliva - Minnesota's smooth-swinging Cuban right fielder, the 1964 American League Rookie of the Year and a three-time batting champion who made the All-Star team in each of his first eight full seasons before knee injuries took over; Cooperstown called in December 2021. Mr. Tiger: Al Kaline gave the Detroit Tigers 22 seasons, most of them in right field, won the American League batting title at 20 in 1955, took home ten Gold Gloves and finished with 3,007 hits and 399 home runs.
