The story on this card

In 1967 Goossen split time between the Mets and Triple-A Jacksonville, batting .159 in 37 games for New York while catching in most of them. His 1967 Topps rookie card, #287, is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow Mets prospect Bart Shirley, part of the set's fourth series. Journeyman catcher-first baseman for the Mets, Pilots, Brewers, and Senators whose 1969 platoon season in Seattle was his career peak; later spent decades as actor Gene Hackman's stand-in and bit-part regular in Hollywood films.

1967 Topps #287 is a Rookie Stars card pairing Shirley with Greg Goossen, both shown with the New York Mets, issued in the set's fourth print series. The card marked Shirley's move from the Dodgers to the Mets that season, in which he appeared in six games, going hitless in 12 at-bats with one run scored, seeing time at second base. A right-handed reserve infielder who played four seasons for the Dodgers and Mets in the 1960s, then two seasons in Japan with the Chunichi Dragons before managing in the Dodgers' Class-A farm system.
