About Bill Hepler

Issued in the second print series of the 1967 Topps set, a regular-issue card, this solo card again represents Hepler as a New York Met. His rookie card came the year before. The card follows the only season of his major league career, in which he went 3-3 with a 3.52 ERA over 37 games and 69 innings for the club. By the time it reached packs, his major league playing days were already behind him.

Bill Hepler was a left-handed pitcher from Covington, Virginia, born William Lewis Hepler on September 25, 1945. Standing six feet tall, he threw and batted left-handed. Hepler reached the major leagues with the New York Mets, debuting on April 23, 1966, and playing his final game that same season on October 2, 1966. In his lone big-league campaign he appeared in 37 games, all for the Mets, making three starts among them. He finished with a 3-3 record and a 3.52 ERA across 69 innings, striking out 25 batters without a complete game, shutout, or save. At the plate he went 3 for 14 for a .214 average, with no home runs or RBI. His brief major league career began and ended within the 1966 season.
