The story on this card

By 1967 Coleman had won a permanent spot in the Senators' starting rotation, going 8-9 with a 4.63 ERA across 28 appearances, his first full big league season. His 1967 Topps card, #167 in the second print series, is another Rookie Stars pairing, this time alongside fellow Senators farmhand Tim Cullen, and it is Cullen's rookie card; Coleman's came on 1966 Topps #333. A first-round bonus baby who reached the majors at eighteen, Coleman blossomed into a 20-game winner with Detroit and started a shutout in the 1972 ALCS.

Card 167 in Topps' second series pairs Cullen with Joe Coleman on a multi-player Rookie Stars card, Cullen's rookie card; Coleman had already appeared on 1966 Topps #333. It lands during Cullen's first full season, when he split time between shortstop (69 games) and second base (46) for the Senators, batted .236 with 2 homers and 31 RBI, and earned a spot on the Topps All-Star Rookie Team as a shortstop. He capped the year on August 18 with a come-from-behind, walk-off three-run home run against Kansas City. A Santa Clara two-sport star turned Topps All-Star Rookie shortstop, Cullen bluffed his way into a second-base career for Gil Hodges and later rode Oakland's bench to a 1972 World Series ring.
