About Barry Moore

Card #11 in the first series of the 1967 Topps set was issued while Moore pitched for the Washington Senators. The 1967 season was his best: a 7-11 record with a 3.76 ERA across 27 games and 26 starts, including 3 complete games and a shutout. His signature performance came on April 30, 1967, a one-hit complete-game shutout of the Twins at D.C. Stadium, blanking a lineup that included Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew. This card is considered his rookie card.

Robert Barry Moore was a left-handed pitcher from Statesville, North Carolina, signed by the Washington Senators as an amateur free agent before the 1962 season. He debuted in relief on May 29, 1965 against the Minnesota Twins, and spent 1965-1969 with Washington before finishing his career in 1970 split between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox. His finest outing came against the Twins at D.C. Stadium on April 30, 1967, a one-hit complete-game shutout against a lineup that included Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew. Moore struggled with control throughout his career, walking 300 batters in 599.2 innings, well above the league average, while striking out 278. Over six major league seasons he compiled a 26-37 record with a 4.16 ERA across 140 pitching appearances, including 8 complete games, 1 shutout, and 3 saves. He was also a capable batter for a pitcher in some seasons but finished with a modest .151 career average.
