1968 Topps #172 Walt Williams
This card's back also appears in the 1968 Milton Bradley Win-A-Card board game, printed on a lighter, yellow-tinged stock.

About Walt Williams
Williams split 1968 between Chicago and the Pacific Coast League's Hawaii Islanders, hitting .241 in 63 games with the White Sox in a season when only Carl Yastrzemski topped .300 in the American League. Card #172, from the set's second series, has a look-alike in the 1968 Milton Bradley Win-A-Card game, whose copies carry a yellow-tinged back.
Walter Allen Williams was an outfielder who broke in with the Houston Colt .45's in 1964 and became a fan favorite over parts of six seasons with the Chicago White Sox. Signed out of San Francisco's Galileo High School, he won the Texas League batting title with Tulsa in 1965 and returned to the majors in 1967 after a trade from St. Louis. His best season came in 1969, when he hit .304 and finished sixth in the American League batting race while striking out only 33 times. Traded to Cleveland in 1972 and to the Yankees in 1974, he closed his major league career in 1975 with a .270 average over 842 games. He later played in Japan and Mexico and managed in the minor leagues in the 1990s.
