The story on this card
In 1968 Bradford appeared in 103 games for the White Sox, batting .217 with 5 home runs and 24 RBI while patrolling the outfield in 99 of them. His 1968 Topps card, #142, is a print series 2 Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow White Sox outfielder Bill Voss, pairing the two young Chicago outfielders on a single card and marking Bradford's recognized rookie card in the Topps set. A well-traveled outfielder for the White Sox, Indians, Reds and Cardinals across eleven big-league seasons, prized more for a strong throwing arm and sound outfield defense than for his bat.
Voss opened 1968 with the White Sox' Hawaii farm club before being recalled on April 28. He struggled early, batting just .115 by June 1, but manager Eddie Stanky kept him in the lineup; he delivered a pinch-hit triple to beat Cleveland and a grand slam against Detroit before a July 4 pitch from Pete Richert fractured his jaw. This 1968 Topps #142 Rookie Stars card, from the second print series, pairs him with Buddy Bradford as fellow White Sox outfield prospects; his own first Topps card was 1966 #529. A speedy, left-handed-hitting outfielder who broke in with the White Sox in 1965 and turned in his best season with the Angels in 1969, batting .261.
